という言葉とともに、待ちかねた VS901 機に乗ります。

British Airways (BA) has asked customers who are booked on long-haul flights up to 2 May to make way for those who were stranded.
And Virgin Atlantic says many such volunteers have contacted the airline.
But many airlines' long-haul passengers still face weeks of delays, with re-booked returns stretching into May.

Some passengers have complained that BA appeared to be selling empty seats on earlier flights to new passengers.
BA said its computer system forced empty seats to be made available for sale, but the tickets had been significantly overpriced* so they would remain unsold and stranded customers were not being asked to pay anything extra when their flight was re-booked.
Virgin Atlantic is also taking up offers from volunteers who can fly home at a later date.

Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson said the blanket ban on flights had been an "overreaction", insisting that there had been "no danger at all" to flying.
He said that Virgin engineers had advised that there had been plenty of flight corridors which were "quite safe" and called for compensation for the air industry after the ban cost his airline ￡50m in six days.
On Thursday, Transport Secretary Lord Adonis told the BBC the flight ban had perhaps been "too cautious" but that regulators had needed time to test the impact of the ash on aircrafts.

Heathrow 再開

ヒースロウが再開したからといって、すぐに飛び立てるわけではありません。
ぼくの飛行機に関連する情報は今晩のところ、下記のごとし。
22 April VS901 Dept LT 11:30 (Narita) Arrive LT15:45 (London Heathrow)
This flight has limited seats (308) and will be prioritised for the following passengers:-
Priority will be given as follows (in no particular order):-
●Passengers booked on the VS901 on the 22th April.
●Medical Emergencies
●Unaccompanied Minors
●Passengers with special needs indicated in their bookings
Please NOTE:
Once all the above passengers are checked in, we will accept Stand-By passengers who were previously booked on the VS901 on the 15th-17th April. ( We cannot guarantee that we will be able to carry any of these passengers today.)
If you wish to Stand-By, please come to Virgin Atlantic Check-in Counter at Narita.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE - All passengers form the other cancelled VS901 flights (18th-21th April) will not be accepted at Narita Airport at this time and should wait to be contacted by Virgin Atlantic via a customer service call/SMS or the Japanese Website (www.virginatlantic.co.jp - not the global site www.virgin-atlantic.com - information will be contained under the 'What's New' section).

英語表現については、いろいろと学べておもしろいのですが、
もはや若くないので、空港にて空席待ちスタンバイするなんて、とても。
∴まだ私メはいつ搭乗できるのか分からん、という状態です。

AJC委員会
18日にはAJC2009委員会として最後の会合をもちました。
朝治さんが急ぎ帰途につかれたのは、残念。
木畑さん、草光さんの功をたたえて慰労し、楽しく会食したあとに一斉写真を撮ったのですが、なんだか厳粛な雰囲気になってしまいました。
秋からは、もっと華やぐ、かな？

春浅し
春の雪には驚きました。
一夜明けてまだ新緑も頼りなげな本郷・大学病院前から見えるスカイツリーです。349メートルとか。
自分のことはさておいて、アイスランドの火山の噴灰についても心配しています。
ヒースロウ空港、等々の全面閉鎖、どうなるでしょう。世界史における噴火・降灰・降ガスのもつ意味については「17世紀の危機」論争以来、指摘されてきました。日本史では富士山の噴火が関東平野に及ぼした影響‥‥。
短期的には（偏西風の効果で）その火山より東側に被害が及ぶのですが、成層圏に入ってしまうと、長期的には、被害はぐるっと地球をめぐって拡大し拡散するわけです。

花と散る

また同時に想起するのは、
「願はくは花の下にて春死なん、その如月の望月のころ」
古典は、説明なしで、人の心を動かします。
わが叔父（父の弟）は、シベリア抑留のあと、帰国して
松山で彼を迎えた親類全員でとった記念写真があります（ぼくはまだ赤子でした）。
勤勉に働き、老いてもなお美しい妻と二人の子を残して、この６日に亡くなりました。
享年86歳。
